Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-18-2022

Hello my friends

The present topic is a summary of the contents and opinions of friends active in the GRE consulting department, which has been compiled for the convenience of users who need a useful and complete, yet concise acquaintance with this test. It took a lot of time and energy to prepare this topic, and I suggest that dear friends read the following first, and if their mental questions about the GRE test are not answered, ask their non-repetitive questions in the Q&A section (please Do not send private messages in this regard). This helps to avoid repetitive questions being asked at the community level, to keep the content of these topics useful, and not to overdo it. Also, if friends have a new suggestion or experience about resources, they can contact the language management team to keep the topic up-to-date and usable.

1. Description and general outline of the exam

OK! Let's go to the GRE exam!
In general, the GRE test is intended to measure a person's concentration, speed, and intelligence. Of course in English! That is why children also refer to this test as a language test. If the main purpose of this test is not to assess the student's language level.

The GRE test consists of three parts:

Analytical Writing (Grade 6) (Analytical Writing): At the beginning of the exam, you are faced with two writings. The main purpose of these two writings, in addition to the level of your writing, is to measure your critical thinking and reasoning. LT is. The contents of this section are well explained in the book The Official Guide. The usual scores of children in this section are between 3 and 4.5. A grade of 4.5 is generally a good grade for an international student.

Verbal Reasoning (score of 170) (Verbal Reasoning): In the GRE exam, we have two sets of 20 questions, a verbal question, and the response time for each set is 30 minutes. In this section, you are faced with three question models. Reading questions and two models of vacancy questions are Sentence Equivalence (SE) and Text Completion (TC).
Reading section: About 20 questions in the whole test, ie half of the questions in the verbal section.
Section SE: The question is that you have six options for a space that you have to choose two that do not change the meaning of the sentence by putting any of the options in the sentence.
From this model, we have 4 questions in the base computer for each section, and a total of 8 questions out of 40 questions in the verbal section are of this type of questions.

TC section: This question is a sentence or paragraph that has one, two or three spaces.
Out of a total of 40 questions in the verbal section, 12 questions make up this section.

Quantitative Reasoning (score of 170): In the GRE test, we have two sets of 20 questions with a quantum question, which takes 35 minutes to answer each set. The level of mathematics in this exam is not very high for a technical student with a diploma in mathematics and physics, but the lack of accuracy and speed causes children to lose points in this part.

Tip 1: From the essays section, the sets appear randomly on the screen.
Tip 2: If we divide the exam into 7 sets (two sets of essays, two sets of verbal, two sets of quantum and one set of tests), after the fourth set you have an optional ten-minute break. You have one minute to breathe between each set!
Tip 3: To register, go to the ETS site in the GRE section and register.

RE: Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-18-2022

So now let's dive in to exam preparation!

The GRE test is not a way for someone to give you a set schedule and say that if you read this you will succeed. It all depends on your focus and the quality of your studies. One reads a source in one month, another can not, and reads in two months. One source feels useful and the other says not at all. Some say you have to read a word arithmetic, some say no, it's useless. In general, the resources for preparing for this exam are not absolute. In general, everyone should choose the sources based on the information they have about their study status and plan their own program. It's best to see the right way for you, not the way others go. Of course, it is very clear that reading the experiences of others is a great help, so that you can know the right tools and learn how to draw the path for yourself.
Now the general method suggested by most friends to prepare for this exam is that you have to evaluate yourself once in a while, depending on the time you have allotted to prepare. In this way, in the complete conditions of the exam (start time, observing the time of each section, considering the rest time, arranging the sections, etc.), take the test and then carefully examine each question. See what level your score is at and why the questions you are asking are wrong. (Ignorance - carelessness - time pressure) According to these cases, next week change your reading method according to your weakness. And repeat this process at regular intervals.
Note 1: I will name the sources in this topic in the order of sections. For example, if all parts of the ETS book are useful, I will include its name in the verbal, quantum and writing sections, and I will introduce it according to the book's performance and feedback in that section.

3. Introduced resources for Verbal section

First of all, I would like to point out that for a good score in this section, you must have both a high level of vocabulary knowledge and a high level of comprehension. It is true that words do not play a major role, but they do play an important role in your success. But words alone do not guarantee your high score, and this must be accompanied by understanding the above. Also, without having high vocabulary knowledge, comprehension can not be very high. If you see an unfamiliar word in every line of text, it will surely negatively affect your understanding of it. Now to start, my own suggestion is that from the moment you start preparing for the GRE exam, continue until the day of the learning exam and the vocabulary course! It is not different from traditional Leitner software or box, whichever is more compatible with your mood!

Tip 1: There are a number of prerequisites for preparing for this exam, which in fact is not part of the preparation for this exam, and in all the explanations, therefore, you know this much! Book 504 and Essential Words for TOEFL are a good place to start. Of course, many children read this while preparing for TOEFL! Regarding the preparation of GRE, no more will be said about this, if someone who does not know the word so well will surely copy 1100 after seeing the book!

Tip 2: If you have a lot of time from now until your exam, or you are a student and you have a lot of time until your graduation and GRE exam, try to read university books in the main language. In any case, it will have a great impact on your comprehension.

1.3.Vocabulary sources:

To read the word, try not to read from a ready flash card. Prepare the flash card yourself. When you read from a book, you see the words in the sentence and it makes the words stick better in your mind! If you are going to read a flash card, read the text of the book first and then use the flash card for the course. Try to see the use of words in different sentences so that you can use the words in your writing. However, I strongly recommend that you do not go for ready-made Enki files and dictionaries or other software. Try to prepare these sources, words, meanings and examples and enter them in the software or write them on a piece of paper and review them according to the Leitner method. This may be a little more time-consuming, but it does make it easier for words to fit in your mind and become active. Certainly, you are more comfortable with the meanings and examples you write yourself than the examples and experiences of other people. Read this book first and in the next step you can use the following word lists according to your time.

Now there are vocabulary resources!

Dictionary: First of all, to learn vocabulary, you need a good dictionary that covers high-level GRE words. The three dictionaries named are: Merriam Webster, dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com.

RE: Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-18-2022

Book 1100: This is the first book that comes to most of us when we hear the name of the GRE exam. Well, the majority opinion is that this book should be read. There are many who do not have time to go to this book at all and most of the time they bring average or down scores in Verbal. Based on the feedback I got from Topica, and my own experience, I recommend this book to get you started. This book is 46 weeks old and has 20 new words every week. If your reading speed is moderate, about 2 months or less is good for this book to take the time. This book is a heavy book! And because the mind is not ready to read the first word, and in some places it gets mixed up and diminishes. But you do not give up. The mind gradually becomes accustomed to learning words and becomes accustomed to absorbing more difficult words. When you finish this book, you will clearly feel that your vocabulary has increased, and your mind is preparing to absorb more advanced words.

Verbal Adontage: In my opinion, it is the sweetest part of preparing for the GRE exam. The audio file of this book is awesome! There are ten lessons, each lesson has 50 words. The order of this book is such that it starts from the easier words and ends with the words that are very crumbly! The pdf file of this book is also available. But the audio file is sweeter!

Word Smart Book: The order of this book is in alphabetical order, which is not to the liking of many children. This book has about 800 words. If you bring this book to your list after Verbal Adontage and 1100, it will be very repetitive for you. Introduces a word and then gives an example.

800 Essential Words Book for GRE: Most of the above words are similar to Word Smart. Because in alphabetical order. Their system is the same as everyone else. The book is not very interesting at all!

Megosh words (Android flash card): highly recommended.

Manhattan Vocabulary (1000 Manhattan Words): This series of words consists of two sets of 500 words at two basic and advanced levels. Many people point to this word list.

Merriam Webster's Vocabulary Builder: This book focuses on the Latin and Greek roots of words and tries to help the learner to learn the meaning of a root, to face a wide range of words, and even to help with strange words. Guess the suffixes and prefixes used in this book, their meaning (depending on his skill) with a high degree of accuracy. Some kids think that's the best book about roots. It has 30 units and examines the roots in each and is very detailed.

Word Power Made Easy: A useful book for working on the roots of words

Vocabulary.com: An interesting site for vocabulary training.

College Bound: A book that has a general set of words, and works entirely on roots; Latin, Italian, French roots. There is also a section that categorizes synonymous words with the differences they have, which is a great book.

Tip 1: As I said, continue learning vocabulary until the day of the exam. Along with the rest of the tasks.

RE: Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-18-2022

3. Resources introduced for the verbal section - continued

3.2 Reading: To prepare for this part, if you read the word list in the above order, I think when you reach the middle of 1100, it is a good time to start purposeful preparation for this part. Half of the questions are verbal reading. For TOEFL GRE reading, it is not possible to read the questions and easily find the answer in the text questions. The questions from this exam need to be analyzed and you can not manage the analytical questions without reading the whole text. Intermediate and advanced texts are generally not straightforward texts. The skills needed to receive these tips are reinforced by "practice in reading." In the new series of tests, not only your vocabulary is measured, but most of the sentence logic is very important. You may know the meaning of all the options correctly, but because you do not understand the logic of the sentence, select the wrong option or options. So after learning the vocabulary, be sure to practice the sample tests with enough meditation.

Comprehensive book of official guides for ETS
This book is a comprehensive book and has most sample questions to get acquainted with the exam and is not an exercise book.

ETS Verbal Resonance Book: The best sources are the sources that come from ETS itself. This resource is one of the most essential resources for exam preparation and includes practice and verbal testing at various levels.

Megosh Videos (Links 1 and 2): To give a general explanation about the Megosh package, which is also true for the rest of the Megush, Magos has a comprehensive (non-free) exam preparation plan that many kids are happy to use. . The plans of this plan are good for most friends, but you have to be flexible in dealing with them and change them to some extent according to your plan. A series of resources on the same non-free plan are uploaded to the library of this forum. But in the purchased plans, both the videos are updated regularly and you have the support and debugging by Magosh experts. This means that by purchasing this package, all your questions will be answered via email. This is a general explanation of Megosh videos. There are also good videos for reading that you can use for free.

Official Guide to Matthew: For Reading, my suggestion is to use Critical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension as complementary exercises. The official guide of Matthew in Megosh was highly recommended. This section is good for cultivating the power of reasoning in some reading questions.

RE: Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-18-2022

Magosh Book for Verbal: This book has about 500 questions to prepare for the Verbal section. This resource is also available in the library of this site.

Big Book: This book contains old GRE exams and is almost useless, except for the reading part! It is not available on the market as a book and only PDF files are available. Reading prepares one's mind very well to face the main test readings. This set has 27 tests, each of which has parts A and B. There are 54 episodes. See, guys, this text is very heavy! Do not feel bad when you first see him. Do not be struck. Sit with concentration and analyze the texts. That's all. Verbal Usually if you ask half the questions, it means you are fine. So do not expect too much from yourself. Little by little, you see your progress. The purpose of studying the Big Book is not to see questions similar to the exam, you are going to strengthen your reading skills with the Big Book, which has relatively difficult and complex questions and texts.

19 series of action tests: These are the continuation of the same Big Book tests and in the same order, shape and image. If you have time, add this to your program. The Pdf file in the reader is not compatible with some programs and shows blank pages. Foxit Reader program tested and answered!

Crack Princeton: You can also use this book for reading strategies and techniques.

Volumes 7 of the Manhattan Book: Volumes 7 and 8 of the Manhattan Book are for the verbal part, and Volume 7 deals specifically with reading.

5 5 Manhattan: A very useful resource for training and testing in this area
Baroness: If you work on the ETS book, you will see that the level and format of the Baroness book questions are slightly different from ETS.

Podcasts for news sites and novels: If you have the time and patience, this item will help you understand your content. Of course, this is good for someone whose time is very long. The student, for example, wants to try for another two years, and this method subconsciously raises comprehension in the long run. In time constraints, the bigbook responds better than magazines. There are two main reasons. One is that this source was written by the designers of the original exam question, and by reading this source, we get acquainted with the writing style of the original designer, and then there is a question !!!! Yes, having your own question is the best way to get challenged in a great way and you can evaluate yourself and your reasoning power from the text you read.

In fact, you expect a graduate student to be able to read, write, and analyze like an American graduate.

2. What is the structure and flow of the passage?
3. What is the author's tone?
4. What is the author's purpose?

Tip 2: Sometimes the technique of removing incorrect answers will easily lead you to the correct answer.

RE: Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-19-2022

3. Resources introduced for the verbal section - continued

3.3.Resources of Sentence Equivalence and Text Completion:

Preparation for this section does not begin at all unless you have previously created the appropriate vocabulary. Because once you have the relevant vocabulary, you will enter the next stage of preparation for these questions, which is to cultivate the power of reasoning or reasoning by working on the SE and TC tests of different sources.

ETS Comprehensive Guide Book: This book is a comprehensive book and has most sample questions to familiarize you with the exam and is not a practice book.

ETS Verbal Resonance Book: Over-Emphasis on ETS's own resources to prepare for all episodes Useless advice!

Manhattan: The Manhattan Book Volume 8: Provides Tests to Prepare for This Part, which seems to be beyond the level of the exam and appropriate for the new GRE, which focuses more on comprehension. Magosh takes this objection from this book and says that, like the old Manhattan version of GRE, this part has relied heavily on vocabulary and reduced the share of comprehension.

5 5 Manhattan: A very useful resource for training and testing in this area.

Megosh videos (links 1 and 2): Like the rest of the exam sections, Megosh has provided useful videos for this section.

Barons: If you have a lot of time, you can also use this resource.

RE: Abstract Materials and resources for GRE test preparation - scholar - 03-19-2022

4. References introduced for the quantum section

This part is very easy to think about! But a high score for this part is expected from an engineering student. Speed, accuracy and concentration play a very important role here (like the rest of this test, even a little more intense). It is very important that you read the question carefully and answer it quickly. In this part, you should try to work on reducing the error rate.

ETS Official Guide: Getting Started If you are an engineering student and have a fairly reasonable level of math, start with Chapter 7 of this book to see what the topics are. Then work on the test and practice sections to get acquainted with the exam format.

Megosh videos (links 1 and 2): A good option (especially for friends who are not in the technical field) to get acquainted with the basic topics of mathematics and learning terms. You can also watch these videos in your spare time. It doesn't take long. These videos will make you more familiar with the questioning techniques.

Quantum Resonance Book: Again, the overemphasis on ETSB's own proprietary resources! This book is also one of the most obligatory. Practice and test from Quantum and at the exam level. The difference between this book and the Financial Guide is that the Financial Guide is more about the familiarity with the test and this book is about practice.

Nova Math Bible: This book describes and tests quantum problems, which are relatively easy for engineering kids but can be effective in improving accuracy.

The Manhattan Book: has a level equal to or even higher than the exam and is one of the children's favorite resources for this section. This book is recommended for high quantum scores.

Magosh Book for Quantum: Contains about 500 and eaten useful questions for the quantum part of the GRE test. Recommended for a high quantum score.

Don't ask hard questions: There are about 60 questions that you can ask for a high quantum score. But some people believe that it is not very similar to an exam.

Manhattan Book Volumes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6: 6 The first volume of the Manhattan Book is good for basic explanations and quantum thematic practice at a relatively low level. Each volume examines one of the quantum topics.

Kaplan: The end of Kaplan's book also has 100 useful mathematical points. The book tests are also good!

The Big Book: Quantum Questions Answering less than 40% of the book after all the resources have been used can be a good option to increase accuracy.

Crack Princeton: The verbal and writing part of this book is more than its recommended quantum.

Barons: For a while, Barons were one of the main sources of the exam, but gradually the emphasis on other sources has increased.

Tip 1: In the quantum section and when practicing, always try to write down your problems for reasons and review them later. As you get closer to the exam, check the inaccuracies you had while preparing for the exam and try not to repeat them.
